The project originated after we received a donation of deadstock t-shirts, which read: “MIAMi”. At Style Saves. We took the shirts’ design as an opportunity to highlight the importance behind positive affirmations and self-talk in order to showcase how these methodologies contribute to improvements within individuals and at a community level. By partnering with the counseling team from the school, we were able to deliver the message in a manner we know works and is accepted and loved by the students.

The Power of “I AM” project was made possible by the contributions of our community. With our primary focus being on bringing awareness to the power of self-affirmations we were able to distribute goodie-bags with shirts that read: “mIAMi.” For the students at Booker T. Washington. Also within this project we were also able to provide school supplies and flyers, which provided students the information behind the benefits and properties of self-affirmations.

This drive encouraged students to self evaluate and recognize the aspects within themselves that they valued the most. In collaboration with the school’s counseling team, we suggested every student to write out their “I AM” affirmations and incorporate them into their daily routines.
